Here are a few photos from the pumpkin walk. We worked on the Tangled scene, but my kids loved the Despicable Me scene, so I'm including that one also. Danae was able to come down with her family to see it, so that was fun to share it with her.

Getting ready for the Pumpkin Walk

Dear Family,

For the past three years, we have created a scene for our local pumpkin walk. Becky goes absolutely crazy making all sorts of props and pumpkin people and the kids love to help. It is fast becoming a family tradition! This year we picked the theme "Tangled" for our scene and we will be setting up on Tuesday. We hope it doesn't pour rain on us. Some years it snows or rains on the scene, so it has to hold up - therefore no cardboard and all acrylic paint must be sprayed with a waterproof sealer.

We made Pascal today from a pumpkin body and a green pepper head. We also painted pumpkins to be 'floating lanterns' and we are borrowing a canoe for the pumpkin people to sit in. It always is so fun to set it up and see all the other displays as well.

The Cabin

Tanner and Jordan have spent the better part of the summer building a cabin on some newly purchased land behind our home.  Mike brought home some old wood fencing material that he was going to cut up and use for fire wood.  Tanner and Jordan asked if they could use some to build with.  Mike said yes thinking that they would make a birdhouse of some other small thing.  They have spent hours planning and building, including furnishing the inside with table,  chairs and bunkbeds.  They have built it entirely by themselves.  During the summer they called it Camp JJ (Jordan and neigbhor Josh's idea) and charged neighbor kids $.50 to come hear Native American stories and do crafts. 

We had a wonderful family picnic in Eden on Labor day. We all talked about having it next year on a Saturday, so more family could attend. The pinata in the shape of a cowboy boot was a big hit, as well as the kids' nature hunt. Aunt Mary Sue had us scavenging for all kinds of things, including horsehair and owl pellets.
